Man at center of bizarre home invasion attempt identified as a local

DEARBORN, Mo. (KCTV) - The man who attempted to invade a rural Missouri home partially naked after he prayed to a horse and attacked a dog has been identified as a local.

The Platte County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday, Sept. 20, that the man shot while attempting to invade a Dearborn house has been identified as Joshua C. Hinderliter, 37, of Dearborn.

Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement officials said they were called to a home near Masonic Dr. and Arnoldsville Rd. with reports of a suspicious individual, later identified as Hinderliter.

Investigators said Hinderliter had arrived at the property partially naked as he prayed to a horse and attacked the homeowner’s dog. When he attempted to force his way into the home, the owner shot him. Hinderliter was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The North Platte School District had been placed in lockdown at the time of the incident due to the proximity of the Junior and High School.

As of Friday, no charges have been filed in connection to the incident. No further information has been released.
