English player who suffered freak injury celebrating World Cup win thanks Kansas City surgeons
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An eventful World Cup for England’s Jordan Henderson has now included a successful trip to some surgeons in Kansas City.
Henderson, a midfielder who has appeared in just one match for England during this World Cup, suffered a freak injury climbing back over the advertisement boards at the Estadio Azteca after the Three Lions celebrated a 3-2 win over Mexico on Sunday night.
The injury capped a night in Mexico City that saw Henderson get booked for a yellow card despite not participating in the game as a player.
On Wednesday, Henderson posted a thank you note on Instagram following a visit to the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute.

“Surgery done! Now Let’s get ready for the big one Saturday,” Henderson said in the post. “Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. Especially the 3 surgeons who carried out the operation.”
Henderson and the English team have spent their World Cup base camping in Prairie Village at the Meadowbrook Hotel.
England will play Norway on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Miami. With a win, they’d advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, July 15, in Atlanta.
