Authorities respond to reports of large fire, explosion at Warrensburg furniture store

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KCTV) - Crews battled a large fire and explosion at a furniture store in Warrensburg Tuesday night.

The Warrensburg Fire Department and Johnson County Fire Protection District said crews were called to Arwood’s Furniture Tuesday at approximately 8:15 p.m.

When they arrived, firefighters located a significant fire on the exterior of the building, authorities said, as well as heavy smoke inside the business.

Crews extinguished the fire outside the business and are now conducting an assessment of the inside of the business, authorities said.

“Due to the size of the building and the quantity of its contents, this assessment is expected to take an extended period of time,” the Warrensburg Fire Department said.

Arwood’s Furniture & Mattress is one of the largest furniture retailers in Missouri, and has more than 126,000 square feet.

It’s located just north of 50 Highway in northeast Warrensburg.
