OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City dedicates its first home in a new Olathe affordable housing development.

Organization leaders said the dedication marked the completion of the first phase of its Pathway at Heritage Park development.

Habitat for Humanity noted that the project is a 14-home neighborhood designed to help working families afford homeownership in one of the region’s most expensive counties.

“So, we’re really proud of this community. We’re proud of this neighborhood,” said Lindsay Hicks, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City. “And we’re excited to expand these types of housing options in Johnson County.”

According to the organization, three homes are now complete in the development’s first phase. When finished, the neighborhood will also include a playground and landscaping meant to create a connection.

Habitat for Humanity indicated that rising housing costs have pushed homeownership out of reach of many working families in Johnson County.

Leaders said the project addresses that gap by providing long-term housing stability for families who want to stay in the area.

The organization noted that affordable homeownership strengthens families, supports workforce stability and keeps Johnson County accessible to residents across income levels.
