Worker dies in copper mine accident, company says

MORENCI, Ariz. (AZFamily/Gray News) — A worker at an eastern Arizona copper mine died Monday.

The worker died after a “haul truck accident” at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci mine, according to the company.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the employee’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time,” company officials said in a statement.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

No other details were shared, but company officials said the Mine Safety and Health Administration and Arizona State Mine Inspector responded and are investigating.
