Hot & sunny today, First Warn for storms starting tonight
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Wednesday will be the last dry day before a more typical summer pattern brings several chances for rain and storms through Saturday.
For today, expect plenty of sunshine, highs in the low 90s. Humidity is rather low for one more day, so it will feel noticeably better in the shade.
Winds will stay light out of the south at 5 to 10 mph.
Storm chances return late tonight
We are First Warning rain and storms return after midnight tonight and continue into Thursday morning.
Storms are expected to move in from the west and northwest. For the Kansas City metro, the best chance for rain looks to be early Thursday morning, including around the morning commute. These will be somewhat scattered, but there will be enough of them that they may slow your drive in.
The risk for severe storms is low at a Level 1/5, but a few gusty storms and heavy rain are possible. A few spots could pick up a half-inch to 1 inch of rain.
More scattered storms Thursday and Friday
Thursday will stay warm, with highs near 90 degrees and higher humidity. There the chance for rain and storms in the morning, then another chance Thursday evening into Friday morning.
Highs will be a little cooler Friday, near 87 degrees, thanks to more clouds and rain chances. Another round of scattered rain is possible Friday evening and night.
Saturday: Match Day Updates
Saturday will be warm and humid, with highs near 88 degrees. Heat index values may climb into the mid-90s.
Rain chances are lower for now, around 30%, but the forecast will need to be watched closely over the next few days.
The match itself looks to start in the mid-80s with a low 20% rain chance.
Heat builds next week
Sunday looks like the start of the next stretch of hotter weather. Highs are expected to return to the low and mid-90s, though the latest humidity levels don’t look too extreme. This may hold the heat index to 100 or less despite the extended hot stretch. We’ll keep you posted as new data comes in.
