KC Current player, Zarda Bar-B-Q launch new sauce benefiting Steps of Faith
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Zarda Bar-B-Q, Hy-Vee and KC Current midfielder Debinha launched a new sauce on June 17.
The Thunder Berry sauce is a raspberry chipotle BBQ sauce from Zarda, which will benefit Steps of Faith in Kansas City.
The flavor profile pairs well with pulled pork, turkey, chicken and most of Zarda’s Ozark hickory smoked BBQ meats. Billy Brimblecom, Jr., CEO of Steps of Faith, helped in the development of the sauce.
Steps of Faith is a nonprofit that helps uninsured and underinsured amputees get prosthetics they need.
Terry Hyer, Zarda COO, reached out to Brimblecom wanting to do more.
“Billy and I were brainstorming, one thing led to another, and the idea to create a new BBQ sauce to help benefit Steps of Faith was born,” Hyer said.
The soccer relation is due to Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brimblecom and Hyer’s love for the sport. A connection with the Current led to Debhina’s involvement with the sauce. Sudeikis used to partner with Brimblecom for a variety show where proceeds went to Steps of Faith.
“Debinha loved the idea of the sauce and its charitable ties and wanted to use her voice to help promote this amazing cause,” Hyer said.
After Debinha joined the team, the color scheme was revitalized to include KC Current colors.
Thunder Berry will be available in all KC area Hy-Vee locations and Zarda Bar-B-Q locations in Blue Springs and Lenexa.
“It’s easy to take mobility and the use of one’s legs or arms for granted. To know that proceeds from Thunder Berry will help hundreds of amputees be able to afford regaining the ability to walk – and even run – is fantastic. The sauce is delicious – fans are going to love it. And knowing proceeds are going to such a great cause – Steps of Faith – makes it that much sweeter!“
