Beau and Jennifer Rothwell

Beau Rothwell, Jennifer Rothwell's husband, has been charged with her murder.

Jennifer Rothwell,

Jennifer Rothwell, 28, was last seen Tuesday morning in the 12600 bock of Northwinds Drive in central St. Louis County.

TROY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County police have identified the body found during a search off Highway 61 near Troy, Missouri Monday night as Jennifer Rothwell.

Just before midnight Monday, police held a news conference and stated they believed the body belonged to Rothwell. At the time, police said they were trying to get in contact with Rothwell's family for positive identification. An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted in the coming days.

Wednesday morning, St. Louis County police said the body was positively identified as Jennifer Rothwell.

Police switched their focus to Lincoln County around 5:15 p.m. Monday after Beau Rothwell started cooperating with police in finding the remains of his wife Jennifer Rothwell, his lawyer told News 4.

Beau Rothwell has been charged with killing his wife, Jennifer Rothwell, who was reported missing last week.

A vigil is planned for Rothwell at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 20 in Millenium Park in Creve Coeur. The park is located at Barnes West and Olive Street Road.

Husband cooperating with investigation

Monday evening, Beau Rothwell's attorney, Charles Barberio, said he hoped and expected police to find Jennifer Rothwell's body:

"My client and I are working with the St. Louis County police department and the St. Louis County prosecutors office to bring closure to this case and to all parties involved," Barberio said. "We have no further details to release at this time and ask for privacy on behalf of the families as we cooperate with law enforcement."

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar confirmed they were looking for Jennifer Rothwell Monday night. Police said they had detectives on scene as well as Special Response Unit, and Metro Air Support Unit searching the area near Cuivre River State Park.

"We got information about mid-afternoon and it came from the suspect, Beau Rothwell, and his attorney that he was willing to cooperate to some extent by trying to assist law enforcement on telling us where the body was of his wife Jennifer," Belmar said.

Belmar, alongside Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell, said detectives were walking a certain part of Highway 61. The police chief said he suspects Beau Rothwell dumped his wife's body in the very early morning hours Tuesday.

"Unfortunately we came here after dark. It's a little bit difficult terrain to search," Belmar said. "We will continue [walking the highway] until we find Jennifer's body however long that takes."

Belmar said he talked to detectives and believed the information Beau Rothwell provided was reliable, or else they wouldn't be out searching. They believed Jennifer's body wouldn't be too far from the side of the highway.

Additionally, Belmar said there was no obvious connection between Beau Rothwell and this area of Lincoln County.

Beau Rothwell charged with murder

Beau Rothwell was charged late last week with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.

"Obviously I think we knew, unfortunately, with last week's events that this was not going to end in a positive manner," Belmar said.

A probable cause statement said he was caught on video buying cleaning products including bleach, carpet cleaner, and gloves on Nov. 11, the day before Jennifer Rothwell was reported missing. Two days later, police obtained a search warrant for the Rothwell home where detectives found a wet carpet soaked with bleach and large areas of blood, police said.
