NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. (KCTV) -- An impatient driver cut through a lawn to get past a school bus, potentially putting students in danger.

Home surveillance footage catches a North KC school bus making a routine stop to drop off students. A green pick-up truck follows, then disappears.

“Little decisions like that are life-alternating or potentially life-ending," said Cody Koycon.

Cody and Keesha Koycon live on the corner of Hardesty and Terrance.

Their son is a student in the North Kansas City Public School System and is a frequent bus rider.

He said he knew something wasn’t right when he noticed damage near their driveway – and a long stretch of tire tread marks thru their front yard.

His surveillance system provided the answers.

“Every single one of those children are considered our kids here," Keesha Koycon. "They are the Hardesty crew and we stick together and if anyone of them would have been hurt, it would have been the same as my child.”

The family says the driver was a North KC student who stays a few doors up the road.

They say the district has identified the student and the student will face consequences.

The district would not confirm that information. However, they did say they are working with police on the investigation.
