(Meredith) - A brave 5-year-old boy fought back when a group of gunmen stormed into his house during a terrifying home invasion in South Bend, Indiana.

Police recently released surveillance footage from the invasion while asking the public to help identify the suspects in the video.

On Sept. 30, four men forced their way into the family's home after a child answered the door, according to the South Bend Police Department. Police said three of the four men were armed with handguns.

In the video, two of the men immediately charge into the living room, startling a woman and two children. One of the gunmen points his weapon at the woman before a 5-year-old boy begins hitting him from behind. The boy then throws an object at the suspect and continues to hit him as the group makes their way to another room in the house.

"This video is extremely disturbing," the department wrote in a Facebook post. "You can see a little boy hitting one of the armed suspects as he tries to defend his home. It is our job now to defend him."

Police said the suspects fired shots and fled the scene, but no one was injured.

Anyone with information on the suspects can call Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or 800-342-STOP. You can also call the South Bend Police Department Investigative Bureau at 574-235-9263.
