Officials with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and KCK have given management of Rosedale Ridge Apartments until Dec. 1 to make needed repairs, and some residents fear they will be homeless. The rental license for the property at Federal Avenue and South Mill Street has been revoked due to unsanitary conditions, and all violations must be corrected by the end of the month. Mold, mice, bed bugs and cockroaches are among the issues. Residents say the apartment management quickly pulled the signs posted by the Unified Government. Resident Tamia Thomas said the owners have failed to take care of the issues."They don't fix anything. You can have a work order in for a year, and they still won't fix it," Thomas said. Residents are frustrated by the living conditions and the uncertainty about their future."What about the ones who have five to six kids and have nowhere to go? People don't live here because they want to live here. They live here because they have to," Thomas said.Representatives for Yarco, which manages the property, said the company is working with specialists to abate the mold and fix other issues. They say they will complete a plan to meet the government's license requirements. And residents hope they won't have to find new homes over the holidays.
