Authorities in Cass County say they have found the vehicle connected to a hit-and-run accident that took the life of a teenage boy late Sunday night.
The hit-and-run happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday on Missouri Route D south of Missouri Route OO.
Missouri State Highway Patrol says Gavin Kush, 15, of Drexel, MO, was walking in the northbound lanes of Route D when a maroon Hyundai hit him, throwing him into a ditch. The vehicle fled the scene after hitting Kush.
Kush was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
On Tuesday, MHSP Troop A tweeted that the Hyundai was found and secured as evidence. They say their investigation is ongoing but did not provide information about a possible suspect.
Friends and family of Kush spoke to KCTV5 News about the tragic loss.
“They could have gotten a ride from anybody, but they’re just teenage boys that wanted to take a walk and his best friend was with him and was able to flag down the next car that came by," said Jordan Moles, his sister. “His best friend said that the car accelerated before he struck my brother and just took off.”
Sydney Admire, who lost her sister after she was hit by a drunk driver, was not far from where Kush was killed. She's selling lanyards and collecting donations to help the area that helped her family when they needed it.
Anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle is asked to call MSHP Troop A (816) 622-0800.
