Lee's Summit parents warned after elementary student approached by suspicious man

Turner High School told parents on Tuesday that a student had brought a weapon to school.

Another student alerted administrators, who quickly took the student into custody.

According to the school, the gun was not loaded.

The student will be disciplined according to district policy.

The following message was sent to parents of students on Tuesday, according to the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Public Relations.Parents:

Today, the administration at Turner High School was alerted by a student that another member of the student body had a weapon in his possession. Administrators immediately intervened, securing the student. They then notified KCKPD and the Wyandotte County Sheriffs Department who responded taking the student into custody. School consequences will be issued in accordance with district policy. The safety of our students is the top priority of the Turner School District and we greatly appreciate the student who came forward. Please reiterate to your children the serious nature of events like these and the importance of sharing information with school officials.
