Councilman Quinton Lucas announced on Saturday that he is running for mayor of Kansas City.
Lucas was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and was elected to the city council in 2015.
“Some run to be something; I am running to do something,” Lucas said. “In the same I way have worked hard each day to build a brighter future for Kansas City, I will ensure we have continued growth and progress. I will make sure that all Kansas City neighborhoods yield the benefits of our city's strength. That means increasing affordable housing options, improving public safety, and ensuring continual transparency and accountability from our city’s government.”
“Lucas went from experiencing homelessness as a child to attending an Ivy League law school and becoming one of the youngest tenure-track law professors in the United States,” a release from his campaign said.
“Lucas will continue to champion quality housing, job growth, government accountability, and public safety,” it continues.
