RAYTOWN, MO (KCTV) -- A 17-year-old girl is shot dead inside a home in Raytown.

Police say it happened about 1 a.m. Friday near Blue Ridge Boulevard and Sterling Avenue. One neighbor said she was shaken out of bed as she heard at least four shots.

Missouri Highway Patrol is lead on the homicide investigation and have identified the victim as Makayla Brooks.

The young girl was known to many of her neighbors. Her life was sadly taken inside her home.

Neighbor Katie Henshaw said Brooks lived at the home with her mother and a couple friends.

“She was a good person, and she had a bright future. I just think her life at home was the reason things turned out the way they did," Henshaw said.

Three people witnessed the shooting, and police say they are cooperating. No suspects are in custody.
