Dierbergs plexiglass

Dierbergs and Schnucks are placed clear partitions at checkout lanes to protect employees and customers.

ST. LOUIS (Meredith/KMOV) -- Two Missouri-based grocery store chains are installing plexiglass sheets at the checkout counters to provide a barrier between their staff and customers.

Dierbergs and Schnuck's began installing the barriers this week.

Dierbergs called the plexiglass an added safety measure to go “above and beyond.” They expect to have the plexiglass in all stores by Tuesday. This barrier is in addition to sanitizing conveyor belts, credit card terminals, door handles, self-checkouts and cashier stations.

Schnucks has also added temporary plexiglass to their checkout, pharmacy and customer service counters. They expect to have the partitions in all stores by March 30.

Both grocery store chains have locations in the St. Louis-area and southeast Illinois.
