The Kansas City Zoo issued a Code Red for its Africa section after a rhinoceros escaped her exhibit Monday.

It happened at about 10:30 a.m.

Officials say a female rhino escaped its exhibit and gained access to a behind-the-scenes zookeeper area.

Following zoo protocol, official called for a Code Red in the Africa section and moved visitors into indoor facilities in the area.

The rhino was later coaxed back into its exhibit a short time later without incident.

Officials say the Code Red was not zoo-wide.
