A 20-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a woman after an argument between him and the victim's son.

Tyjuan K. Caldwell faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.

According to court documents, police responded Wednesday afternoon to the area of 50th Street and Chestnut Avenue on a reported shots fired call. They found the victim, 43-year-old Bernice Brown, fatally wounded by a gunshot and in the street.

Her death was ruled a homicide by the Jackson County Medical Examiner.

Several witnesses said there had been an argument involving Caldwell and relatives of Brown.

Caldwell told police he ran outside where several people were arguing after he had grabbed a gun inside. He fired the gun at a man he had argued with earlier, and Brown jumped into the line of fire, he stated.
