Kansas City man charged in armed robbery of Raytown convenience store

A 28-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with an attempted armed robbery of a Raytown convenience store on New Year's Eve.

Jerry L. Williams III faces first-degree attempted robbery and armed criminal action. Prosecutors requested a bond of $50,000 cash.

According to court records, Raytown police responded to a reported robbery at a convenience store on Missouri Highway 350 about 10:30 p.m. They surrounded the area and found the suspect nearby.

Williams was taken into custody after he was found lying under a tree in the area of 68th Terrace. Witnesses identified the suspect as the man, armed with a handgun, who fled from the store after attempting to rob it.

Raytown police also found a gun and a gun magazine.

Video surveillance from the store showed Williams as the person who attempted the robbery.
