KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- A 14-year-old boy is dead after a shooting early Tuesday morning in the Northland.

Police were called about 3:30 a.m. to the Vivion Oaks Apartments at 50th Street and North Oak Trafficway.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located the boy with a gunshot wound to the face and attempted CPR, but the teen died. Police have not identified the victim.

Investigators said six juveniles and two adults were inside the townhome at the time of the shooting.

Police said there has been no determination on who pulled the trigger or what exactly occurred inside the home.

Tuesday afternoon, police said the shooting was accidental. 

The Homicide Unit has ruled the death investigation an accidental shooting. Two juveniles were playing with a firearm while other family members were sleeping. The accidental discharge struck the victim in the head causing fatal injuries.
