Kris Kobach

Republican Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is disputing a new television ad in which his Democratic rival in the governor's race says he's called the state's school overfunded.

TOPEKA, KS (KCTV) -- Following a historically close Republican Party primary in the Kansas Governor's race, the general election is also shaping up to be a close one.

That's according to the first poll released by Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning polling outlet.

The poll, commissioned by the Kansas NEA PAC, shows that Republican Party nominee and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach leads Democratic Party nominee Sen. Laura Kelly.

Kobach leads Kelly 39-38, with Independent candidate Greg Orman claiming 9 percent of the vote.

The poll was taken from Aug. 24 - Aug. 26. It included responses from 877 likely Kansas voters.
