Crews battle house fire in the Northland

Crews said a house is expected to be a total loss after a fire in the Northland.

The fire broke out in the area of North Woodland Avenue and North Highland Terrace just before noon Wednesday. The home is southwest of Staley Farms Golf Course.

Flames and smoke were visible when firefighters arrived on the scene. The fire department requested that a representative from the city's dangerous buildings department come to the scene.

Nobody was home when the fire broke out. One firefighter suffered minor injuries with burns to his arm.

Officials said a propane tank, which was part of a grill, exploded, but they aren't sure if it caused the fire.

The battallion chief said the home is expected to be a total loss and a neighboring home had damage to its siding due to the extreme heat.
