KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – A child was injured on Saturday after being struck by a vehicle.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. in the area of NW 56th Terrace and NW Waukomis Drive in the afternoon, which is near Line Creek.
It happened after the child went into the road. The area is across from a football field.
The driver did stop and the child was taken to the hospital as a precaution, due to a concussion. The authorities expect the child to be okay.
Neighbors said they do see football practices or games with grade school or middle school children happening at the football field at Frank Vaydik Park around the time Saturday's incident happened.
They also said parents’ cars line Waukomis and that as many as 20 of them will park on the shoulder.
They said such a line of parked cars creates a blind spot for them getting out, and they have often worried about how hard it would be to see a child crossing from between two cars.
Neighbors also said they have complained about speeding on Waukomis and police have responded with regular speed enforcement and tried to address that by giving out tickets.
This is the third time in less than a week that a child has been hit in the overall Kansas City metro area.
