Electronics Technician (2nd Shift)-190002U

We’re looking for a full-time Electronics Technician at our headquarters in greater Kansas City.  In this role you will apply electronic theory, electrical testing procedures and related knowledge to lay-out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul and modify developmental, production and customer returned Garmin product and electronic equipment. Other essential functions include:

  • Trace circuits of defective units, using knowledge of electronic theory and electronic test equipment to locate defects and repair electronics to the component level
  • Discuss layout and assembly problems with an Electronics Engineer, Process Engineer and management to clarify design details, functional criteria and issues encountered while repairing product
  • Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to improve assembly, maintenance, test method or product performance
  • Inspect, analyze and interpret test data
  • Inspect, adjust, calibrate, align and modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance to repair units
  • Record test/alignment procedures and results, defects, repair history, numerical and graphical data
  • Must possess the ability to lift up to 25 pounds while using safe lifting techniques 
  • Compliance with HRD-0003 (Non-Exempt Attendance Policy)
  • Olathe associates only: Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must possess one of the following: Associates degree in Electronics Technology, Vocational Certification in Electronics Technology, a substantially related field of Military training, a minimum of 80 hours towards a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Technology or a related field OR an Electronic Technician Certification (International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians (ISCET) or Electronic Technicians Associate International (ETA-I). Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Must possess the ability to lift up to 25 pounds while using safe lifting techniques 

Candidates with 2+ years related Electronics Technician or Engineering Technician experience are highly preferred!

Electronics Assembler (2nd Shift)-19000C0

We are looking for a full time Electronics Assembler to test electronic function of assemblies, components, subsidiaries and systems using test equipment and procedures at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for reading shop orders, following production work instructions and sample assemblies and receiving verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed. Other essential functions include:  

  • Train other GARMIN associates on task requirements and processes
  • Position and align parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture or other holding device using hand or power tools.  Performance of this duty may include lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Tend machines or use hand tools and power tools to crimp, stake, bolt, rivet, weld, solder, cement, press fit or perform similar operation to secure parts in place. 
  • Performance of this duty may include lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Perform operator level preventive maintenance on machines, per Garmin       requirements
  • Mount assembled components such as transformers, resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits and sockets on chassis, panel or printed circuit board
  • Connect component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals and contact points using soldering, welding, thermocompression or related bonding procedures
  • Install finished assemblies or subassemblies in cases and cabinets

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for this role will possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills, to provide for respectful work related communications with peers and personnel from other departments (direct contact and use of electronic mail systems). Other requirements include:

  • Must possess a high degree of dexterity and eye coordination, to allow manipulation of buttons, switches, hand tools and knobs on delicate equipment, products and parts, in the performance of essential functions
  • Associates operating machinery must have a mechanical aptitude with an attention to detail
  • Must be able to lift/move 25 pounds
  • This position will require the ability to sit, stand, look down, bend, twist and have dexterity with hands for up to 10 hours.

2 years assembly experience and soldering skills are highly preferred!

SMT Machine Operator (2nd shift)-19000EL

We’re looking for a full time SMT Operator to read shop orders, follow productions work instruction and sample assemblies, and receive verbal or written instructions regarding duties to be performed at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for providing daily status and process communications via email to SMT Machine Operators on other shifts, Production Management and Process Engineering. Other essential functions include: 

  • Position, align, and hand-place components in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture or conveyance during sequential assembly of printed circuit boards
  • Tend machines by quickly and efficiently loading/replenishing feeders with reels of components, entering programs into automated placement machinery, setting up support fixtures, and prepping multiple assembly lines for next shop order.  Primary goal being to maximize machine productive time
  • Collect quality data, essential for continuous improvement and tracking of factory deliverables
  • Perform operator level preventive maintenance on machines, per Garmin requirements
  • Troubleshooting component placement and machine issues that are commensurate with associate’s level of expertise, training, and latitude provided by Process Engineering
  • Mount components such as transformers, resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits and sockets on chassis, panel or printed circuit board

Qualifications

Candidates qualified for this position will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and must be able to communicate effectively in English, through written and spoken communication. Other requirements include:

  • Must be able to routinely read numbers and differentiate between similar numbers in Garmin’s part numbering system
  • Must be able to navigate in basic computer applications such as MS Windows
  • Must be able to learn to navigate in specific computer applications such as Oracle and Fuji Cam

Candidate with 2 or more years of assembly experience and soldering skills are highly preferred!
