(WBBM/CNN/Meredith) – A family near Chicago discovered dismembered body parts in their son’s suitcases after he arrived on a bus from Kentucky.

Markham police said the homeowner’s son recently came to visit from Kentucky and brought several bags of luggage with him.

Police chief Terry White said after a few days, the family found it odd that the man never unpacked his luggage and kept guarding the suitcases. The family also noticed a strong odor coming from them.

Tuesday morning, when the man left the house to go to the library, he left his suitcases in the home. The family decided to look through the luggage. That’s when they found a woman’s dismembered body parts in the suitcases. They called police immediately.

Police said they believe the crime happened in Kentucky and that the man traveled more than 5 hours on a Greyhound bus with the body parts in his luggage.

The FBI is investigating the case and officials said the family is cooperating.

The man remained in police custody Tuesday night but has not yet been charged with a crime. His name has not been released.
