The Traditional Music Society is honored to present its 9th annual World Music and Dance Showcase. This year we are excited to have as our special guest Amado Espinoza. Amado was born and raised in Bolivia South America. His interest for music started at the age of eight, participating in the military band of his elementary school, playing instruments of the Andean region, like the Sikus (or panflute). At the age of 16 he began formal studies in music at the Andrés Bello Institute, where he studied classical guitar. He continued his musical education at the Conservatory Milan in Cochabamba, Bolivia and began investigating ethnic instruments from various parts of the world. He studied under Professor Alberto Iporre Salinas, ex-chairman of the Conservatory of Hungary. Since his arrival to Kansas City, MO in 2014, Amado has been seen on TEDxKC, TEDxYouth, Folk Alliance International, and has been featured with many local bands. He is the 2017 Charlotte St. Resident Performing Arts Fellow. Amado will be performing with his group Ayllu. This ensemble plays music from different many cultures, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina as well as the US. This event will also feature the Traditional Music Society’s Soundz of Africa ensemble as well as musical selections from Cuba, Brazil and Haiti. A must see event!
