KCTV 5 has a rich history.  The station first signed on September 27, 1953 as KCMO, founded by the KCMO Broadcasting Corporation.  Six days later, on October 2nd, Meredith Engineering purchased the KCMO radio and television stations.

KCMO-TV branded on-air as “Television 5″ and in 1966 it was simplified to “TV 5″ and in 1983 was changed to KCTV.  KCTV was known as “Kansas City’s Television” for an on-air slogan until February 1994.

In 2003, KCTV5 celebrated 50 years of broadcasting with an hour long show – “Reflections: A Look Back at 50 Years of Broadcast Excellence”  Enjoy that show here.
