Woman who lost leg in fatal crash returns home to find belongings missing
GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - A woman in Ohio who lost her leg in a fatal crash is now also dealing with the loss of her belongings after returning home to a nearly empty house.
Ashley King returned home Saturday after spending more than a month in the hospital, to find many of her belongings missing, including her stove, sectional couch and kitchen items.
“I started looking around and I’m just shaking my head like where’s all my stuff at?” King said.
King was stunned to see all that was gone.
“I get to the doorway, I see my couch is gone and then I look in the linen closets, both linen closets are empty,” King said. “I go to the kitchen, my kitchen table is gone, the stove is gone, every cabinet in the kitchen is empty, down to the pots and the pans to the silverware and I’m just devastated.”
King, a mother of three young children, said some of her children’s belongings were also missing.
“My daughter’s bed, my kids’ belongings, their bed, how can they come home to an empty house?” King said.
King was severely injured in July after a suspected drunk driver hit her and her boyfriend, Cameron Duvall, a firefighter. The two were responding to a roadside assistance call for a driver in Pepper Pike.
King suffered several broken bones and had to have her left leg amputated.
Duvall was unfortunately killed in the crash.
“From the first day up until today it’s been hell,” King said.
King filed a report with Garfield Heights police regarding the missing belongings.
“Who would do this? It’s unbelievable,” King said.
“I still had air in my body. I was still breathing, I was not dead, why?” King said.
King said she is determined to recover despite this setback.
“This is a challenge to bounce back even with everything else happening so I’m going to bounce back from it believe it or not but it’s going to take time,” King said.
A GoFundMe was set up for King as she heals and rebuilds her life.
Garfield Heights police are continuing their investigation into King’s missing belongings.
The suspect accused of killing Duvall and injuring King in the crash is scheduled to appear in court this week.
