Lexington evacuates residents, shuts street down after gas line struck
LEXINGTON, Mo. (KCTV) - The City of Lexington evacuated residents after a gas line was struck Monday night on Main Street.
City officials said a gas line was struck in the 1600 block of Main Street. The announcement from city officials was shared at 8:26 p.m.
Residents in the area were evacuated and the street was shut down. Officials asked residents to avoid the area as well.
Shortly after 9 p.m., officials said the gas line had been repaired and residents were allowed back to their homes.
Lexington has dealt with several issues regarding gas lines being struck in recent years.
A deadly gas explosion that killed a child, leveled a home and injured an entire family happened on April 9, 2025. That explosion happened in the area of 18th Street between Franklin and South Street.
In May, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced that her office reached an agreement with Liberty Utilities over a gas line failure that led to the explosion.
