Former TV, podcast co-host identified as victim of deadly Sunday shooting in KCK
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - James Dodds, a former TV and podcast sidekick of Jason Whitlock, was identified Tuesday as the victim of a deadly shooting in Kansas City, Kansas, on Sunday night.
Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department identified the 64-year-old man, who was known as “Uncle Jimmy,” during Whitlock’s radio career in Kansas City and while appearing on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak for Yourself.”
Dodds was found by police Sunday night outside a home in the 3000 block of N. 82nd Terrace suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where he died from his injuries Monday morning.
On Monday, 18-year-olds Aaron Johnson, Mark Elliott Nash Jr. and Marquel McGee were arrested in Newton, Kansas, police said.
The three men were charged in Wyandotte County with first-degree murder on Tuesday. All three are currently in custody in the Harvey County Detention Center pending transfer to Wyandotte County, police said.
Whitlock, a former Kansas City star columnist and radio host who brought Dodds onto his show nationally at Fox Sports 1, spent time on his show ‘Fearless’ on Tuesday paying tribute to the man known as Uncle Jimmy.
“Jimmy was a great friend. Jimmy did the best that he could. Jimmy was talented,” Whitlock said. “Jimmy had great intentions... Jimmy I just want to say job well done and we will miss you and certainly loved you.”
