Report: Argentina traveling to Kansas City this weekend in preparation for World Cup
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - It’s been talked about for years, and this weekend, the reality will begin to set in.
The World Cup is just a matter of weeks away, and the first team is set to arrive in Kansas City soon.
The Associated Press reported that Argentina will travel on Saturday to its World Cup base in Kansas City and will play friendlies against Honduras and Iceland before the start of the tournament.
Argentina will train at Sporting Kansas City’s training facility, the Compass Minerals National Performance Center, in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Origin Hotel on the Berkley Riverfront appears to be picking Argentina as its favorite team for the tournament.
Security fencing has popped up around the hotel with some not-so-subtle messaging. “Vamos Argentina” appears on signs that have been installed on the fence and hotel doors, and reservations are not available until the end of the tournament. A tent going up in the back of the hotel appears to have workout equipment inside.
Hotel management for Origin Hotel has not commented on whether the defending World Cup champions are staying at the facility.
