Kansas City: Last day for cheaper World Cup short-term rental permit
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Time is running out for Kansas City property owners to list a rental on Airbnb and other short-term sites in time for the World Cup.
Kansas City leaders said the deadline to apply for a permit is 5 p.m. on May 5. The city will continue to accept annual registration applications for short-term rentals after that date. The annual applications are more expensive and good for a year.
So far, people who own more than 800 properties have submitted short-term rental applications to the city. Nearly half have been approved.
Property owners also need to make sure they are submitting the correct application, according to the city:
- Major Event Application (World Cup)
- $50 fee, non-renewable,
- Valid only May 3 – July 31, 2026
- Annual Application
- $200 fee
- Eligible to renew annually for year-round short-term rental operations
Anyone who has already applied can check the application status through the city’s CompassKC site.
