JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - Several Friday night shootings in Mississippi at high school homecoming celebrations left multiple people dead and injured.

The first shooting, in Leland, occurred on Main Street, where 16 people were shot, leaving at least four dead, after the school’s homecoming game.

Authorities said no immediate arrests were made, and they did not identify any suspects, with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation assisting in the investigation.

A second shooting also occurred at South Delta High School in Rolling Fork.

Two people were arrested in that shooting, which happened at a local school after its game Friday night, according to Sharkey County Sheriff Herbert Ceaser Sr.

And two people were also shot and killed at Heidelberg High School in another homecoming event shooting.

One victim was found on the school’s baseball field, while another died in a tailgating area near the bleachers.

According to Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, one of the victims was an expectant mother.

Multiple agencies responded to the shootings, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, the Heidelberg Police Department and the Bay Springs Police Department.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department announced a person of interest was taken into custody on Saturday for the Heidelberg shooting. Authorities identified him as 18-year-old Tylar Jarod Goodloe.

“Our state is praying for the victims and their families, as well as the entire Heidelberg and Leland communities. Those responsible will be brought to justice,” the governor said.
