KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - More than a half-dozen students injured in a bus crash Friday afternoon are recovering at home, according to their pastor.

The student athletes from Shawnee Mission Christian School at Olivet Baptist Church were on their way to games in St. Joseph when their bus crashed.

Micah Bourdess is the lead pastor at Olivet Baptist Church in Westwood, Kan. He provided an update to members of the congregation during a church service Sunday morning.

“I just want to thank you all for praying this week. Most of you know there was an accident that happened on Friday afternoon. I am happy to tell you that everyone is home and everyone is resting up and doing well. Thank you so much for keeping all of our students and staff in prayers and continue to keep on praying for them as they recover,” Bourdess said.

He went on to say that the people involved in the crash suffered bumps, bruises, cuts and are still sore.

“Just pray for them this week as they process everything that happened and as they physically recover,” Bourdess said.

A crash report provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol shows the front passenger tire on the bus blew out and then the bus skidded. The report shows the back tire also blew out before the driver lost control. The bus went into the ditch and overturned.

The Buchanan County Sheriff said there were 29 people on the bus at the time of the crash.

Eight students, boys and girls between the ages of 12 to 16, were taken to hospitals. Of those eight students, six suffered minor injuries and two suffered serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A 44-year-old woman passenger also went to the hospital, according to the crash report, but is now recovering at home, according to the church pastor.
