LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A man wanted for multiple warrants was arrested on Wednesday after he ran his vehicle into a parked patrol car while trying to run.
According to a post by the Lawrence Police Department, early on Feb. 26, officers parked their patrol vehicles in the Econo Lodge parking lot at 2525 W. 6th St. They were there to make contact with a man, 43-year-old Antonio P. Jaimez of Lawrence, who reportedly had several outstanding warrants.
When the officers tried to approach Jaimez, he got into his vehicle and reversed into a patrol car. He then drove forward onto a sidewalk and sped away onto 6th Street. The officers started chasing him at high speed until Jaimez tried to make a curve in the road at Colorado Street and lost control of his car.
Jaimez ran over a fire hydrant and disabled his car, so he got out and started to run. He was quickly cornered by police, however, and was taken into custody without resistance.
LPD said a firearm was found in Jaimez’s car and drugs were found along the path he ran.
He was booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility on two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of interference with law enforcement, two counts of distribution of opiates, two counts of flee or attempt to elude and two counts of failure to appear.
