Stolen vehicle incident in Lawrence brings 2 into custody

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Two suspects are in custody in Lawrence after a brief stolen vehicle chase, crash and foot pursuit Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a vehicle that was turned on was stolen near 6th and Champion streets just before 4 p.m. At 4:27 p.m., the vehicle was seen by a Lawrence Police Department officer at 6th and Michigan Street.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle after it crossed the river bridge into North Lawrence but the vehicle fled. LPD said the officer discontinued the pursuit because of the poor road conditions due to winter weather.

“A short time later the vehicle was located wrecked near 9th and Oak,” police said.

Two suspects were taken into custody nearby following a brief foot pursuit.

LPD said no injuries were reported.
