KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the death of a 7-month-old baby to determine if there is enough evidence to file charges in the case.

The medical examiner ruled Giovanni Carr’s death was a homicide last month.

He died in June after officers found him unresponsive at a home near E. 53rd Street and Wabash Avenue. Investigators said the 7-month-old suffered “significant physical bodily trauma” before his death.

In June, Carr’s family said his mom was going to work and left Giovanni with his godmother.

“While in her care, somehow someway, he was severely abused,” Thea Fyre, Giovanni's great aunt told KCTV5 in June. “The hospital said it was abuse. There was no way any of these injuries or anything that happened to Gio was a health issue or something that could have just happened out the blue.”

Fyre also expressed her disbelief about what happened in December after learning about the homicide investigation.
