Man charged for the overdose death of Leavenworth teen
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Lansing man has been charged for the death of a 15-year-old from Leavenworth.
On Nov. 22, 2024, Torin Baughman was found guilty of a single count of distribution of fentanyl.
On Jan. 3, Baughman was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison, according to the Leavenworth County attorney.
The charges are related to the death of a 15-year-old Leavenworth teen on Jan. 18, 2023.
Investigators placed Baughman at the teen’s home through Life360 data. During an examination of the teen’s phone, the Network Intrusion Forensic Analyst and the U.S. Secret Service found a Snapchat conversation between the two. Baughman provided the teen with a pill “sprayed” with fentanyl. Investigators were able to connect Baughman to the teen’s death.
After an autopsy was conducted, the teen’s official cause of death was a fentanyl overdose.
“This tragic incident resulted in the loss of a 15-year-old boy who was a student, a son, and a valued member of our community.” Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family, who maintained communication with my office throughout this process.”
