LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - One man is in custody and a teen is at large after a man was shot multiple times on Monday.

The Lawrence Police Department stated that at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 11, officers were made aware of a shooting in the 3300 block of Iowa Street. Police said the shooting did not take place near the Walmart, but rather in a nearby neighborhood.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old man had been shot multiple times in the leg. He was taken to a trauma center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Through investigation, Lawrence police came to believe the shooting may have happened as the result of a drug deal that turned into a robbery. Following several leads and witness statements, they were taken to a nearby residence that a suspect had reportedly run into after the shooting.

Investigators gained a search warrant for the property and then surrounded it to convince the suspect to come out. Around 3 a.m., Cameron Cooper of Lawrence, who is believed to be the shooter, left the residence and was taken into custody safely.

Cooper was booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and aggravated robbery.

A second suspect, an unidentified 17-year-old, was not inside the residence and has not been found. Investigators are still following leads to find him.
