LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Residents have been warned that a new scam circulating the area is a variation of one recently reported about payment for missed jury duty.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday, Oct. 18, that just a week after a previous scam had entered the county, a new variant started to circulate.

Investigators indicated that various individuals have notified them that callers have reported they missed federal jury duty and that in order to avoid a warrant they would need to pay a price.

A community member recognized this as a scam and passed it on to us so we can share if anyone else receives a "warrant"...

Law enforcement officials noted that the scammers have requested that after victims pay, they come to the Sheriff’s Office to take care of the warrant. The biggest clue that this is a scam is that law enforcement twill never pressure individuals to pay money immediately to resolve a legal issue.

The Sheriff’s Office said it is best to hang up on these types of calls.
