MERRIAM, Kan. (KCTV) - Traffic is flowing but was halted briefly early Tuesday morning on southbound I-35 and Johnson Drive after a highway sign fell onto the roadway below.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDoT) used cranes and tow trucks to clear the sign from the highway after an accident involving a dump truck sent the sign tumbling.

KCTV5 learned on the scene the dump truck’s back bed was up while dumping asphalt when it hit one of the electric sign boards.

KDoT crews have been out since 4 a.m. working to clear the large sign, briefly closing the southbound lanes at Johnson Drive.

That area is back open.

No injuries were reported.
