Police conducting homicide investigation after body is found in KC apartment building

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - What was initially considered a suspicious death is now being investigated as a homicide, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

According to police, officers went to the 2900 block of Wabash Ave. around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call about a person who was unresponsive.

When officers arrived, the caller directed them into an apartment building. There, they found a man with unknown injuries who was indeed unresponsive.

EMS ultimately declared him dead at the scene.

At that time, the police classified it as a suspicious death investigation.

On Monday, the police said this is now a homicide investigation. They say the man’s preliminary cause of death was by gunshot.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, the victim in this homicide was identified as 56-year-old Charles R. Bass.
