Sunny Sunday Starts Melting Spring Snow

Warm, Windy Air To Follow, Meteorologist Says

UPDATED: 1:37 pm CDT March 29, 2009

The thick, wet snow that fell Saturday will melt quickly, said meteorologist Tom Wachs.

The snowfall ended Saturday night, leaving ice- and snow-laden budding trees and slushy, and sometimes icy, streets.

Wachs said Raymore, in northern Cass County, Mo., took the brunt of the snowfall, with 6 inches falling. Much of the rest of Kansas City area measured 2 to 4 inches.

The high temperatures aloft kept much of the precipitation to a freezing rain and sleet until early afternoon, when the wintry mix turned over to snow.

Wachs said the snow should start melting Sunday with temperatures reaching into the mid-40s.

He said that a strong wind from the south will bring high temperatures to the area Monday. The temperature could reach into the 50s.

Clouds will roll in by Monday afternoon as another storm system moves toward Kansas City, Wachs said. We'll get some rain on Monday night, which should pass out of our area by Tuesday morning, he said.
