FAIRWAY, Kan. -- A winter storm dumped 2 to more than 5 inches of snow on the Kansas City area Tuesday.Most of the snow fell in the morning, slowing the morning commute. Dozens of cars slid off roads, but no wrecks with significant injuries were reported.Numerous schools on the Missouri side closed, while most remained opened on the Kansas side. Some later canceled evening activities. Some churches also elected not to continue with their evening plans.In Bethany, Mo., 5.3 inches of snow accumulated. Five inches piled up in Maryville, Mo. Four inches coated Lawrence, Kan. Overland Park, Kan., received three inches.Road crews continued to work to clear the streets before the Tuesday evening commute.Phase 1 of the emergency snow ordinance was in effect in Kansas City, Mo., meaning drivers who get stuck could be ticketed.Overland Park, Kan., police asked drivers involved in non-injury, non-substance abuse related wrecks where the vehicles can be moved to exchange pertinent information and file a police report at a later date.Wednesday should be a quiet weather day, said KCTV5 meteorologist Gary Amble. Another winter storm on Thursday could lead to even more treacherous road conditions.
