KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A line of powerful thunderstorms produced large hail and strong winds across central and eastern Kansas and into Missouri last night.Hail nearly three inches in diameter damaged a building and six cars at the state prison in El Dorado, east of Wichita. Up to an inch-and-a-half of rain in 30 minutes swamped Kansas City. The storms popped up in central Kansas in the late afternoon and moved northeast toward Missouri. An entrance to a boat dock was flooded and debris jammed at a bridge footing. In Leavenworth, a park along the river bank was under water by Sunday night. The storms also downed trees and power poles across the area, knocking out power in Eudora, Kan., and Lincoln, Mo.A grain bin in Girard, Mo., was destroyed by 70 mph winds, and winds estimated at 55 to 65 mph destroyed a barn and a shed in Fillmore.
