Shelter Offered To Residents Without Power
The following shelters have been opened for residents who've lost power during the ice storm.
Kansas
Kansas City, Kan.
Shelters have not been established in Kansas City, Kan., but warming centers are available.
The Argentine Recreation Center at 2810 Metropolitan Ave., the Bethany Recreation Center at 1120 Central Ave., and the Eisenhower Recreation Center at 2901 N. 72nd St. will be open until 9 p.m. Tuesday for residents who need to warm up.
Leavenworth
The American Red Cross will provide shelter to Leavenworth residents who are without power at the Riverfront Community Center at 123 South Esplanade Street. Residents from any part of Leavenworth County can come to the shelter if they need a warm place to sleep on Tuesday evening. They will also provide meals. The shelter will be set up in the Riverfront Community Center gymnasium. Access to shower and restroom facilities is available.
Olathe
A shelter is available in Olathe for residents without adequate home heat or power. Residents are encouraged to bring necessary personal items such as medicines and ready-to-eat snacks. The shelter is located at the Indian Trail Junior High School gymnasium at 1440 E. 151st St. Enter near the pool entrance on the building's east side. The shelter opens at 7 p.m.
Missouri
Kansas City, Mo.
The American Red Cross opened two shelters Tuesday night. One is in the northland at Antioch Bible Baptist Church at 800 N.E. 72nd Street. The other is in south Kansas City at the Hillcrest Community Center at 10401 Hillcrest Road.
Cameron, Mo.
The city of Cameron opened a shelter at the United Methodist Church at Second and Pine streets.
