A man who fled in a vehicle containing a pregnant woman and five youths after receiving a 10-day jail sentence now faces seven new charges.

James E. Johnson was charged Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court with resisting arrest, four counts of child endangerment and two counts of attempted assault of a law enforcement officer.

Police tried to stop the 21-year-old Kansas City man on Interstate 70 in eastern Jackson County near Oak Grove after he was sentenced in Lafayette County for driving with a revoked license.

The chase ended about 40 minutes later in Kansas City after a tire-flattening device disabled the stolen sport utility vehicle.

Police said the youths in the SUV ranged in age from 15 to 2 and that the woman was 8 months pregnant.
