A man was killed as he walked across the street with a friend on Wednesday night, police said.

The man was crossing the street in the crosswalk with a woman about 10 p.m. at the intersection of East 39th Street and Euclid Avenue when a speeding car hit and killed him, witnesses said.

The man flew through the windshield of the speeding Pontiac.

Two people in the Pontiac got out of the car and fled the scene.

"There were allegedly two suspects that exited the vehicle and got into another vehicle, and went northbound on 71 Highway," said Kansas City police Sgt. Jim Fuller. "We don't have a description of that vehicle at this time. We do have some witnesses."

The owner of the Pontiac told police someone stole her car during a house party earlier in the evening.

Police are questioning people who may be able to identify the two who left the scene.
