A desperate search for a missing teen ended in a dramatic rescue Sunday.

Jacob Fischer, 17, was trapped in his car for nearly a day and a half, according to his family, friends and authorities.

His father had been frantically looking for the teenager. He'd driven on Noland Road near 49th Street past his son many times and didn't know it.

"About a hundred times. We've been out. We've been canvassing the area. The family has been helping. The neighbors have all been helping. It's been a big group effort," Fischer's father, Scott Fischer said. "We got lucky and the helicopter found him."

Police in a helicopter spotted the Raytown High School student's white car in some woods at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Emergency crews found Fischer unconscious and had to cut him from his car. His friends and family stood by while the emergency crews lifted him to safety.

"He didn't look very good, but he'll be OK," said Fischer's friend, Paige Staples.

Fischer had been in the car for 32 hours, since he'd left for a hunting trip in dense fog at about 6 a.m. Saturday.

He was in critical condition at Truman Medical Center on Sunday afternoon.

A fund has been established to help pay for Fischer's medical expenses. Contributions can be made at:
