A man on a stolen scooter led police on a slow-speed chase overnight, officers said.

Police said they tried to get the scooter driver to stop, but he kept going, darting down side streets and cutting through yards at speeds between 5 and 20 mph.

Officers said they called off the chase.

A short time later, police spotted the black and silver scooter in Midtown and tried again to stop it.

During the pursuit, a wheel on the scooter was damaged, police said. Officers said they followed until the driver stopped the scooter, laid it down and took off on foot.

Police took a suspect into custody nearby on a porch by Troost Lake near Paseo Boulevard.
